About Heritage Paving
Natural Stone Patio
Specialists in Farnham Since 2014
Indian sandstone is the most characterful patio material available; no two slabs are identical, and no manufactured product can genuinely replicate the warmth, texture and depth of natural stone quarried in the hills of Rajasthan.
We've been installing Indian sandstone patios in Farnham for over a decade. What sets a Heritage installation apart isn't just the stone we specify, t's the preparation beneath it and the pointing compound we choose for your specific stone type and usage.
We bring stone samples to your property before any order is placed, so you can see the exact colour variation in your garden's actual light.

Stone Colours and Varieties
Six Named Varieties,
Each One Genuinely Unique
Indian sandstone comes in six main colour families, each quarried from a different region of India and carrying its own distinct character. Kandla Grey offers cool silver and blue-grey tones that suit both modern and traditional Farnham properties. Rippon Buff brings warm golden tones that pair beautifully with red brick. Raj Green is entirely unique, with natural moss-green tones that no manufactured material can replicate.
Autumn Brown delivers rich chocolate and rust tones for a country garden feel. Fossil Mint is light and creamy with embedded shell and fossil details visible in each slab. Raj Blend and Indian York combine multiple tones for a patchwork of colour that gives maximum natural character across larger patios.
What no screen can show is how a stone actually reads in your garden. Every quarry batch varies, and the difference between varieties looks entirely different outdoors than online. We can bring stone samples to your free consultation so you can see the real colour in your own light before deciding.

Surface Finishes
Riven or Sawn & Honed,
Which Finish Is Right?
Indian sandstone comes in two distinct surface finishes with very different aesthetics. We'll bring samples of both to your Farnham home so you can feel the difference before deciding.
Natural Riven
Split naturally along the stone's grain — creating a textured, irregular surface that varies in depth and relief. Riven sandstone has the most authentic, characterful appearance and provides excellent natural grip underfoot. Every slab is completely unique in its surface topography.
Best for Character
Sawn & Honed (Smooth)
Machine-sawn to a flat face, then honed to a smooth, even surface. This contemporary finish gives Indian sandstone a refined, almost porcelain-like appearance while retaining the stone's natural colour variation. Popular for modern homes and indoor-outdoor transitions. Requires sealing before first use.
Best for Modern Homes
Setts & Cobbles
Small calibrated stone setts (typically 100×100mm or 200×100mm) are used for borders, pathways, feature circles and edging details. Available in Kandla Grey and Raj Green, the perfect complement to full-size sandstone slabs. Adds definition and traditional charm to any patio project.

Installation Process
Your Sandstone Patio
in Farnham in 6 Expert Steps
Natural stone demands careful installation, particularly below the surface and in the pointing stage. Here's exactly what a Heritage installation involves.
01
Free Stone Consultation
We visit your property with stone colour samples, in your chosen colours, so you can see them in your actual garden light. We discuss finish options, drainage requirements, DPC clearance and any steps or feature elements.

02
Fixed-Price Quotation
A detailed written quote covering stone specification, sub-base depth, mortar system and pointing type. The price you're quoted is the price you pay.
No surprises, ever
03
Excavation & MOT Sub-Base
We excavate to correct depth and compact 100mm MOT Type 1 sub-base, with a mechanical whacker plate. Drainage falls of 1:60 minimum are set at this stage, running water away from the building and any seating areas. This foundation determines longevity.
Machine compacted throughout
04
Mortar Bed & Stone Laying
Stone is laid on a full semi-dry mortar bed. For smooth/honed sandstone we apply slurry primer to both the back of the stone and the mortar bed for enhanced adhesion. Slabs are bedded with consistent joint widths using spacers, and tapped to a uniform level with a rubber mallet and spirit level.
Full bed — no hollow spots
05
Pointing
We offer two pointing systems matched to your stone and usage: kiln-dried sand & cement for traditional character, or resin-based jointing for maximum weed resistance and colour stability. We advise on the best option for your specific stone type and garden conditions during the free consultation.

06
Clean Down and Handover
After pointing cures (typically 48–72 hours), we jet wash any mortar residue from the surface and leave the site completely clear. Final walkthrough with you, guarantee certificate issued and aftercare guide provided. Your patio is ready to use.
